Choosing wedding witnesses is an important part of wedding planning. You want to choose people who will be there for you on your big day and help share the joy with you. But how do you know who to ask? It can be tough! Fortunately, there are some easy ways to find out who should be asked.
Check out my five easy steps to choosing your wedding witnesses below!
1. Pick someone you love and trust
2. Make sure they are at least 18 years old
3. Pick two people
4. Get them to sign the wedding registry and witness your wedding vows on the day
5. Look back in 30 years and be happy with your choice
The wedding registry is the official document that binds you legally on your wedding day. You need two witnesses over 18 years of age to sign this register for it to be valid, so who do you choose?
1. Pick someone you love and trust
Good wedding advice is to choose witnesses who are going to be a part of your wedding picture for the future, not just today. Pick someone you love and trust!
Traditionally it would be the bestman and maid of honour, but today many couples are opting for their siblings, their parents and even their grandparents (how special is that).
My advice - pick someone you love and trust. People like parents or siblings make great choices because they'll always have your back even when things get tough and will forever offer loving and supporting guidance.
2. Make sure they are at least 18 years old
Be sure they're over 18 years old too! And, there is no limit on age!
3. Pick two people
Then choose two people to sign the wedding registry with you and your partner. They will be a special person who sees all your big moments in life and who you couldn't imagine not sharing this significant role with.
4. Get them to sign the wedding registry and witness your wedding vows on the day
Sign away, and make sure you get both of them to witness your wedding vows as well so the wedding will be legally binding.
5. Look back in 30 years and be happy with your choice
Lastly, look back in 30 years, knowing they were a part of something exceptional! Your wedding day is a day that you will remember for the rest of your life, so it should be memorable and perfect in every way! And I bet your witnesses will remember how much fun they had and the honour they felt being chosen as your witnesses.
